you managed to get incredibly close in my experience night herons have been quite shy......great clarity nice portraits lovely images

Thanks Andrew. This one hangs out in that particular tree all the time which is close to a boardwalk. He is quite used to people going by.

Great portraits, Don. Spending the winter here? We have several Canadian friends that winter here. They all say it is just BRUTALLY COLD at home this year. One couple had to fight several blizzards trying to get out of our Midwest this year.


My Gear: 6D, 7D, EOS-M w EF-M 22 f2 STM and EF-M 18-55 f3.5-5.6 IS STM, 17-40L f4, 24-70L f2.8, 100 f2.8 non-IS macro, 70-200L f/4 IS, 400L f5.6,, Canon 1.4x II TC, Canon Speedlite 430 EX II, Better Beamer. Manfrotto carbon fiber tripod, 2 monopods, Manfrotto ballhead and pistol grip tripod heads.

Thanks Betty. Yes we are here for the winter and I am greatly enjoying the photography again in Florida. We got out of Ontario just before the deep cold and snow arrived although we didn't miss the ice storm in December which did some serious damage to a few of our trees. It looks like the cold isn't ending any time soon up there.

Yup, I also prefer the left side profile, probably due to the eye looking more at you and the better definition on the feathers from that angle.

Both are superb shots in any case.
