If the budget permits, try finding the STM version. Around $200 USD from various sources, and worth it over the previous 2 versions, I believe. Not sure about what that might run to purchase/ship to Canada though. Maybe pick one up or have one shipped to a hotel room in the US as you pass through?

no issue with shipping as i will be going to L.A. for 2 weeks to get most of the stuffs organized before going to Alaska. As we all know, Canada is an expensive place to buy U.S. goods.

I would ditch the DSLR altogether.

Get a handful of capable little point and shoots with superzooms. You should be able to get a small bag full with extra batteries and chargers for less money and less WEIGHT than a DSLR.

lens pirate i'm not parting ways with my DSLR because my wife will bring her OM-D already

My suggestion would be to keep your 10-22 and 28-75, add a longer zoom (55-250 or 70-200 f4 IS if you can manage it), and buy a good point-and-shoot.

Alternatively, if weight is a consideration (and it should be, on a bike), get a 15-85 and a 55-250. Less changing of lenses, good range covered, very light weight.

I would not undertake a trip like that without some kind of long zoom. The 70-200 f4 IS is an outstanding lens and would be my first choice, but the 55-250 is no slouch and is much smaller and lighter.

I'd leave the DSLR at home and buy the new G1X2 or a mirrorless system. Much smaller and lighter with IQ that matches or beats your DSLR. Oh, and it'll likely cost you less than buying more lenses ;)

Why not just pickup more glass for that then? That'd be much more simple than packing along a bulky and heavy DSLR kit imo. I traveled Germany by foot, train and bike for 3 months with a 20D and Tamron 18-270mm and even that was pushing it for comfort.

I suggest travelling light. Several outfits come to mind:

10-22, 18-55STM, 55-250STM (or substitute the 18-135STM for the 18-55)
15-85, 55-250STM

Carry extra SD cards, batteries, and a charger, of course. The Canon chargers work on dual voltage but will require a plug adaptor. Also take polarizers for each lens. Have some way to back up your pictures to a hard drive or DVD. Pack all of this in a well-padded camera bag.

Canon 80D, 60D, Canon 10-22EFs, 15-85EFS IS, Sigma 100-400, Sigma 135/1.8ART, Sigma 30mm f/1.4DC, Canon 60mm EFs Macro, Rokinon 8mm fisheye, 550EX flash, Olympus TG6 underwater P&S
Postprocessing: DxOLabs 5, DxO Viewpoint 3, Paint Shop Pro 2021
Speak softly and carry a big zoom.

In that case, why not pick up a second em5 or a PEN? That way you could share lenses and further save room/weight.

Get a fast prime for sure. I suspect you'll have opportunities to take great shots in less than ideal light.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Isn't it funny? You say you are staying with a DSLR, and so many are adamant that you go pick up a smaller camera.

Listen, the suggestion is certainly feasible to bring up, but if the thread starter repeats back a couple of times "I don't want to do that, the bulk doesn't bother me much", then why argue?

A famous sci-fi quote comes to mind... "Your jedi mind tricks won't work on me boy".

That reminds me of a recent Arby's trip. I go to the drive thru and order my food and the drink as Mountain Dew. The guy repeats the order back to me, but says "Pepsi". I say no, "Mountain Dew" and he says ok. I get to the window, and he hands me Pepsi. I hand it back and said "I asked for Mountain Dew". He then says, "well do you want the pepsi, we are just going to toss it"... It feels like this thread. I almost actually quoted the above to him, but thought better of it. :D

So, knowing that the bulk isn't a big deal, and that the 7D is most likely the camera that will be taken along, let's try to keep with that as the requirements.

Exactly Teamspeed.

Which is why I mentioned after seeing his response that he should stick with what he has and maybe add a longer lens. Should be fine.

I would me much more concerned about total volume/size and weight than number or lenses.

10-22 + 18-135 or even 18-250 sigma, and a light tripod. You dont want all that weight if you're going to bike.
