I was not booked to do any games today so went down to one of the local clubs near me, cracking first half with lots of trys but terrible weather, it was even hailing at one stage!

Thanks, the hail was coming down so hard that after that drive the ref suspended the game for 10 minutes. We all had to hid under near trees, thankfully my camera was protected with a fully water proof cover!

Nice...great shots! Love the swan dive try photos, and the pushover try or rolling maul or whatever is going on in the last shot is classic! :)

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Thanks :)

It was a rolling maul that led to a try.

Re no. 4: I often joke with players from my club that they should smile for the camera as they cross the line. A few do, but it's amazing how many times a potentially magic shot is downgraded to "not bad" when the player's face is turned the wrong way at the most inopportune moment!

As for the hail, I am reminded of a game I played in about a quarter of a century ago where we started in clear blue skies, before the game was disrupted by a storm that brought small hail, sufficient to make it uncomfortable but not dangerous. Thankfully hail is not a frequent occurrence in my part of the world although we can get "torrential" downpours that can make match photography a labour of love.

I agree, now look at this guy from yesterday he knew where the camera was!

Nice one, I hope (for his sake) that he managed to get the ball down safely as I'm sure the coach would have had something to say!

Yes he did but the coach was screaming at him as he was nearly caught!

Thanks Nibbio, I had to do that, it used to go in the corner but people steal the photos for their own use for free.

mrrikki, I have been asked to take some images of a rugby match this weekend. May I ask where you tend to position yourself around the pitch. Obviously you spend some time behind the try line but is that the best place for general shots or I am likely to get more action on the touchline?

DO you tend to sit for a while in one place or stand and move about?

Hope I get better weather than your hail storm!

Thanks
