Maybe a noob question, but where do you aim your focus point at in these pics?

It depends on the aperture setting. If it is wide open due to minimal light (like f2.8 or f5.6) then you have t decide was is the most important element that you want in focus. If you have a tripod or able to support the camera on a bench/table and can choose a smaller aperture (f12 and smaller) then you get more in focus. Then I generally focus a third of the way in to the area i want in focus.
