One of my favorite photos of my children was one I took of Calista and Octavia when Octavia was about 7 months old. I have been wanting to re-create that shot with Gabriel as he is also now at about that age (8 months so close enough). I am head over heels in love with this and couldn't possibly be happier with how it turned out. I cannot believe how grown up Calista is looking here - she could almost pass for his mother! I guess that is actually fitting since she is like a little mother hen in our family. She is 15 years old now - as of a week ago. This was taken using good old garage light.

Just to share where the inspiration came from, here is the original of Calista and Octavia 4 years ago.

Absolutely incredible.

One really minor detail is that your daughter's fingernail appears chipped. Now how's that for a nitpick? :P

The black and white is just stunning on this.

Lisa, I know you always prefer natural light so when you said garage light were you referring to natural light through a garage window or did you use a garage style shop light? I can't tell if the catch lights in their eyes is a window or a shop light. Thanks!!

I've seen BTS of her other shots and I'm thinking she just shoots it with the garage door open!

Thank you all. Steve is correct - I took this in the garage with the garage door open. I hung a black blanket along the bottom portion of the garage to keep the direct sunlight hitting the driveway from causing the image to look up-lit and then just angled them for dramatic lighting and shadowing. Super easy!
