rogertb,

I had that problem too, the camera focussed on the tree and not the bird. But I made the AF frame smaller and that works. See the manual page 135, "changing the AF Frame".

I've asked someone a long time ago for an example pic at the maximum reach. This is exactly what I was looking for.
I'm sure it's just from the engine smoke but I think the one with the girl has more details. But then again I may be biased. ;) err I mean nice shorts :D

I bet the people around you had no clue how close you can get with your teenie winzy camera

You guys are funny!! Hot chicks always FTW!

You're right too, most people I'm sure had no clue how far, or even "what" I was zooming in on..

I have dozens of really great sharp images from all different lengths. I found I did all the starting line shots with the sx50 and all the panning shots with the dslr..

Good times..:)

The cold weather made it easier to shoot these birds.

Waxwing is sooooo beautiful.
I do have American Robins in my back yard so yes they did came a month or more earlier this year, but from tonight onwards, the poor guys are going to see a long storm. Hope all can do well. Last year one made a nest next to the window and just wondering if this year that lady is going to come back.
Love all that SX50 does and guess this little long one needs to be called The Official Camera of Bird Watcher, Shooter.
