^^ nice shot, good variety of stars. I like the landscape detail, almost looks lighted. I can't make out any constellations, which direction were you facing? Is that Jupiter at 12 o'clock?

Thx! I'm not a huge fan and was really lazy with the composition. But the stars came out pretty nicely.

I was facing south east of Ottawa

Nice shot! The one at 12 o clock is indeed Jupiter. Here are some key objects - Orion is unmistakable.

I annotated the original shot.. hope that's ok since image editing was turned on!

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Orion is pretty much in the centre of the pic...

Edit: Scrumhalf beat me to it.

Thank you, Scrumhalf. I can usually pick out Orion, and the Pleiades, but that shot had me bamboozled. Now I can see Orion's belt and sword.

I'm waiting to test my Rok 14, temps here have been so cold I don't want to venture out at night. Next month, maybe.

From the picture of your home (Ranch) that if I remember correctly, you have a very nice sky. Also if I am correct you bought that power grip for your T3. So just use the tripod in a safe location, let the drive in power grip take picture 1 hour after dusk till the batter or memory lasts and check with the images next day. Winter sky has its own beauty and you won't find Orion so high and pretty in summer. We are going to be hit by storm this weekend...

Took the dog out for a walk on this windy day and took the 5D and 14mm. Didn't stay out too long, that wind had a bite to it!

Well, finally got out with my new copy (after having broken my original). It's at least as good as the first., maybe even sharper.
