Hey all, so I have been pondering with the idea of trading my 7D for the (yes i know) "lower" 60D for some reasons.....here we go.

I find while the AF system is awesome and the 8fps is amazing i seldom really "need" them for my current shooting. Also while again the weather sealing is great on the 7D i rarely need it on my camera and if it is wet/snowy I usually just take out my Hero3 with my kids.
I came from a T2i so I was used to the 9 AF points and was able to make them work for my photo needs....while I love the 19 I feel that this is a really sports geared body and I use it more for my kids and some motion but nothing I feel a 60D couldn't handle.

I know I will miss my little joystick for the AF points but oh well.....

Things I wont do without now.....and reasons for looking at the 60D over something like a T4/5i -

Top LCD screen as well as the thumb dials...I have become much to fond of the higher xxD / xD body and it is a must have for me

Video is a keeper so this is why the 60D rather than something like a 40/50D

Anyone have these 2 bodies and can weigh in....also I would be getting a little cash on my end of the trade to maybe fund some of a new lens or goodies.

Also all 9 of the 60D's AF points are crosstype correct? And while the 7D has 5 AF modes what exactly are the 60D's

I don't see why trading back really does you any good, at this point. You've already spent the money, and the price difference between a 60D and 7D, at this point, aren't great enough that I can imagine you're actually getting enough cash on the backend to be able to do much with.

It's a sunk cost at this point, why not just keep shooting with it and have something that can keep up should you need the higher performance?

And, 9 cross-type sensors, only center is f/2.8 sensitive.

Really cant see any point at all!
You will miss it dearly.
Other than a total wipe out financial crisis, where one would be selling the 7D to feed the kids - and not buying a replacement!
I just cant see any benefits in a trade down to release; what I suspect would be a very minimal cash difference/release.

What are you actually Getting by dropping down? Sell the 7D you have here and now for a used price, and maybe get about the value of a new 60D? And... Maybe pocket change, assuming you can't find a great deal on a new 60D.

Sell the 7D (Which you know the history on and are aware it hasn't been pulled out of a river and stuffed with rice as a hail marry to get it working again) for used price, buy a used 60D (which you don't know the history on), and have a few hundred to spare?

If you are thinking of ditching the 7D for another model, and have an interest in video, then I would say the 70D is probably the better bet to be looking at, given what you can do with a flip screen. But even then I would think long and hard before giving up the 7D.

Yea I have had a few offers in the 250$ range added with the 60D. Not a ton of cash as that isn't a big factor for the trade, mainly looking at things that I will really "miss" from the 7D vs 60D other than the obvious 8fps / 19AF vs 9 AF points.

I went to a 6D from a 7D. I hated the idea of trading 8fps for 4.5fps and a joystick for the pad that the 6D and 60D use. That being said, I'm completely satisfied with the 6D. 4.5fps is as fast as I need and I got used to the control pad pretty quick. Like you, I never actually needed 8fps. I took the 6D out tonight for a friend's concert and I found 4.5fps to be perfect.

I had a 7D and loved it. When it was stolen I bought a 5DIII in large part because it has basically the same body and controls that I loved on the 7D.

Agree - why get rid of a great camera, a known quantity, and make a step down? I can't see any advantages to going with a 60D...

What feature from the 60D are you looking for that is not supported on the 7D?

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

Looking at the gear list, I'd be willing to bet that, what N2bnfunn didn't like about the 7D was the APS-C sensor. If so, the comment is out of place in this thread since the alternative is also APS-C.

To the OPs point: why the 60D and not the 70D? I would trade my 7D for a 70D (though I am not jumping at it, I am holding out for a 5DIII) but probably would not for a 60D.

Hell NO!!
I would never kiss goodbye to my 7D in the first place..forget about trading in for any lower version.
I don't have anything against 60D..i just love my 7D for the very reasons you said above...19-point AF / Joystick / 8fps for sports / Video clippings.

I certainly wouldn't sell it, what u may want to do is to wait until next month to see if Canon announce the 7D Mk II. That's one thing I'm looking forward to.
