I would just get a cheap screw in hood made for it's thread size, something like this
Not only will it protect the front element, but it'll add contrast and reduce flare in your images. Plus, the main reason I use hoods on all my lenses, it'll keep your fingers off the lens if you're manually focusing
That's the one I went with and it's great for the money. I took it a step further and put a good quality UV filter on it. I put the original lens cap back in the box since it looked like something I'd lose in about two seconds. With this setup everything is safe and I'm always ready to shoot.
