Today i was out at a local market and as usual took my 5DIII and Sigma 35 ƒ1.4 combo.
I had a fellow photographer come up to me and say.....

"wow fantastic camera why is it wasted on a Sigma ? I only shoot with red rings..... it makes a difference ! its what real photographers use "

Now i didn't bite at all i just pointed out the the Sigma 35mm ƒ1.4 was my favorite walk around lens and that gear doesn't make you a pro photographer.

anyway it bugged me :)

Should have said that 'real' photographers use light, but thanks for making yourself look like an idiot gearhead :)

Was he being facetious? Call me naïve, but I just can't imagine someone seriously making such a remark (OK, I can, but I've yet to encounter this type of attitude face to face).

And if he wasn't being facetious, I wouldn't necessarily get angry, because the comment (if serious) was so comically idiotic, that it struggles to be offensive. It's the criticisms and rude quips that have a hint of truth that sting or irritate the most, but this is completely devoid of any reality. He's the one who made an overt fool of himself the second he opened his mouth.

It was one of those comments that just make your blood boil. and it made me feel i had to justify myself my work and my gear to a stranger.

He was just trying to strike up conversation while stroking his own ego.

Just laugh and move on.

You travel in the wrong circles. People see my 60D and Sigma 70-200 OS and the crowd parts for "the professional".

I see it done day after day on this forum. Rebels versus XXD and so on.
