Nice shot! I'm never sure where to focus on a shot like this...I always go for the eyes, but I wonder if the tip of the nose should be the focal point in this one?

Any thoughts/opinions?

In all honesty I was just shoving the camera in the dogs face, blasting pics left, right and centre without looking through the view finder. I'll definitely have to try a nose focus shot next time.

I took this just after Christmas I think with a 8mm fisheye. First time I did focus on the eyes and got the blurry nose. This shot on the nose and I thought it was much better.
And ignore the "spotlight effect", had just discovered light rooms radial tool.

Hey all;

I'm brand new to this forum & this may be a dumb question but I've been shooting with the Rebe lXT & I just bought T3i. With the XT I could edit my RAW files in Photoshop CS3 but with the T3i I have to convert them with Canons DPP to a TIFF or JPEG first. It that because CS3 is an version & not able to convert the files? I know Adobe don't support CS3 anymore so that means I have to upgrade to CS4, 5 or 6 or should I just stay with DPP & do the conversion? Thanks in advance .... nonpro :oops:

I think it depends on the shot in my opinion. I think the eye focus in Philli's shot works because it throws the nose out of focus and gives fantastic depth. But the nose focus also works on Jim's shot as well. Me personally, I usually tend to focus on the eyes just because that's what I was always told was the correct way. But it's art, so technically there is no right or wrong, just our own perceptions of right and wrong.

I'd say CS3 cannot read the newer version of Canon Raw, and so you should upgrade to a newer version of CS. Converting to TIFF, and then processing, is OK, but adds an extra step.
