I have the 35 L and 135 L plus the 50 1.4.

I'm thinking buying:
1) a used 50 1.2
2) a used 85 f1.2
3) a new Sigma 85 1.4

I shoot people mainly, as a hobby.

What are your thoughts?

What you have is fine, i do think the 50 is too close to the 35, but for the sake of your question I would say get a 85fl variant and sell the 50 1.4

Well i wouldnt say that. I find 35 and 50 give such different looks. To me 135 and 85 seem much more closer in terms of perspective and look

I agree with getting the 85L as well. It will compliment you 35 and 135 wonderfully.

Since it is a hobby only, seems like a lot of $, IMO. I'll suggest Helios 44-2 58/2 about $60. Nikon 85/1.8 H or HC, about $240. Gene

As others have stated, go for the 85L. Be sure to get a MKII however.

I sold my 85 1.2ii and some time later got a sigma 85 1.4.

The bokeh isn't THAT much better, and it's just one stop. The Sigma focuses faster in low light, And it costs $1,000+ more than the Sigma.

I have another thread asking about the original versus MkII. Why MkII?

Heya,

85mm makes the most sense to me here.

Otherwise, 24mm.

Very best,

I would suggest the Canon 85 f1.8. I got this instead of the f1.2 because the f1.2 has such a shallow DOF(eye in focus and ears out) you find you stop it down anyway. Plus the AF is slow an hunts a lot. The f1.8 IQ is outstanding. I find myself using it a lot on the street. And the price won't break the bank either. As others have said, 85mm would compliment you other primes.

I vote 85L as well, although I do really like the 50L. I've owned the 50L in the past and might pick it up again despite the fact that i love my 35L. I agree that the 35 and 50 focal lengths are different enough. Still, the 85L is just... Amazing.

I too would like to know why the mkII should be the chosen version. Optically they are nearly identical, no? Just curious.
