These Pelican 1514's are available in the UK. I've seen a bunch of fine accessories here. I just really don't know what to say. The best thing I think is to submit suggestions as to whom you would give this as a gift, or who should be using it.

err....800Mb/s for firewire vs 5Gb/s for USB three....

QUOTED IMAGE

Agreed. i frequently get more speed out of my USB3 readers than the theoretical max for FW800. It used to be the fastest most convenient solution, but USB3 is indeed much faster *IF you have fast enough cards.

I tried this the other day, and let's just say that isn't happening until I lose half my body weight.

I'm a big fan of stability on the go, and this will fit in your back pocket. It's a plastic bead filled canvas beanbag, 6 x 8" for about $8. I found it at Adorama, but it's probably available elsewhere. When you can't carry a tripod, take this with you. Very light weight.

I recently purchased this Columbia Silver Ridge Vest.

+ 100% nylon canvas, 100% polyester abrasion resist fleece
+ Omni-Shade UPF 50 sun protection
+ Vented
+ Omni-Wick mesh panels
+ 10 Zip-closed security pocket, zip-closed hand pockets, and mesh pocket bags

It can be used as a photographer's vest or travel vest. I also use it to cover/work with the Cotton Carrier Vest:

that's pretty cool, I have something similar

Sock bean bag
it's actually filled with rice..... works very well. I'll replace the rice with plastic beads one day, and upgrade the white sock to black or gray sock so it doesnt stand out so much ;)

Mine (I have two of different shapes) are black velvet and were made about thirty years ago by SWMBO. They are filled with actual dried red kidney beans which has never proved to be a problem.

What's that eyepiece you have? Is there something similar to that which would work for a bespectacled photpgrapher? (I wear glasses)

I wear glasses, too, and I'm using Hoodman H-EYEC22 Eyecup for my 5DMKIII.
