This shot of the very rare (only one built!) McDonnell MD-220 was rejected five times in total! The last time it was rejected by airliners.net they claimed it was "too soft" and "too dark".
I will never submit another picture to that site ever again...

2 x Canon 40D, EF 100-400 L, EF 28-135, EF 17-40 L, EF 75-300, some filters and a nice bag to put everything in!
Have a look at my aviation photos at http://andrewmartin.eu (external link)

After 6-7 rejections and only one photo accepted (probably got lucky with a generous screener), I decided I don't want to waste any more time with them. They have some really nice photos on that site and the site is useful when you're looking up reg numbers, but I just see no point in trying to contribute anymore. I've uploaded the same photo and gotten completely different reasons for rejection, so it seems that not even their own screeners can be consistent. Perhaps if I had nothing better to do, I would try to figure out the right "formula" to get more photos accepted, but I'd rather spend the time taking more photos.

Looks like they have plenty of contributors anyways, so I'm sure they don't care if some of us give up.

On a side note, I do wonder how some of the photos I see on the site get accepted, as they look similar to, if not worse than the ones I had get rejected. My guess is that if you build up a large enough collection of accepted photos on their site, the screeners are not as harsh, but this is my complete speculation.

Thought I would add to this, I have tried to add photos to this site for over a year now, none even got close to being accepted. One was too grainy apparently, I had a REALLY hard time working that one out, there was hardly any on a noticeable level. Terrible website for photographers, when they run out of photographers they will learn, tough luck guys, you just lost one more. It is clear I am not the only one to be put off by it.

Well, I am not that bad at air photography, and I have some really good photos.
But also I tried to get some in there and guess what???
I know this kid, he is 15, no equipment, only kit lenses, no pp knowledge and he got some in.....and some of his photos are good, some are really not good.
That day I decided to stop trying, and anyway,,,,what is the advantage of being there??

I love this

Ha. You guys won't believe the garbage they used to accept. I uploaded this one way back when the site was not so popular. Check it out HERE (external link)

It was taken with a 1.2 MP Kodak DC120 (external link)!

I still can't believe it remains on the site :)

I find that there are "Aircraft Spotter Photographers", and "Photographers". My stuff gets criticized by "Aircraft Spotter Photographers" because it is not a perfect front lit (at dawn or dusk) shot with no obstructions on the livery and registration clearly visible on initial climb or final descent.

Heck, I just take the shot because I want to...

Old thread...

Has anyone ever used film to submit photos to a.net?

Shampoo sounds like an unfortunate name for a hair product.

They're the last place on the interweb over which I'd lose sleep...

There's a helluva lot more to engaging aviation photography than A-Net's formulaic approach.

If nothing else, their cropping guidelines should be enough for anyone to want to tell them to pound sand.

I never have and never will submit my efforts to those nit-wits.

I miss Jay. Sure wish he would stop by and visit now & then.
He gave good advice about aviation photography and I learned a lot from him.

And he never held back with his opinions ;-)a

It was fun a few million years ago. Now when I reply to a thread I receive an anonymous email explaining that I'm not good enough, and the forty thousand examples why. Catholic school was more fun than that crap.

Unless your under paid contract.... never ever take images to satisfy someone else taste. Total waste of time. The last thing this world needs is more cookie cutter images.
