Wonderful idea for framing, and the lens delivers. Perfect shot :)

Wow, I really am amazed about the "presence" of your shots, it makes me feel how real the view in front of me is (sharpness, contrast, colours, cleannes, light etc). I don't know if you do magic with PP, but I don't get that kind of feeling from most of photos I see. Or is it just the lens?

I purchased this lens a while ago because I had a Best Buy gift card. I just started using it a little more and I really like it. Sharp little lens. :)

Just playing

Ha ha ha. Thanks for the compliment. Seriously, no magic PP. I'm quite certain I may be the worlds laziest post processor :) I use Canon DPP, then Photoshop elements 9 to resize & sharpen.
I've just started shooting in raw, as I'm still learning my new camera, and all I do is set my own picture style. +1 on contrast & saturation, leave the sharpness alone. That's it.
Import into Canon DPP. It's great, because it remembers your camera settings, and the colours it produces are fantastic. To my eye anyway. I can't get close to the colours of DPP in Lightroom, even after ages of fiddling around.
Maybe lift the shadows a touch, or adjust the exposure a little to suit. That's it. Open in elements 9, resize and sharpen. About 40% sharpening, 0.8 radius & 1 on threshold.
Done.

I find the best way to get nice photos, is remember the basics. Get the initial exposure as close as possible to correct. Don't shoot into the Sun, morning and afternoon light is nicer, and focus correctly.
And yes, the lens is a little ripper. In my humble opinion. Hope this helps :)

I bought my 40mm after about three months of thinking. I didn't like the bokeh I saw in the pics found in the net, though the lens seems to render better with FF than cropped cameras. I couple of times had a chance to buy the lens, and always hesitated and thought this lens is not for me. Time went By and found it for 99 euros. I though, well, I can try, and sell it with higher price. For three weeks I took only some test shots and all the time decided to sell the lens. BUT, as time went by, I found something surprising, I liked the lens. I even adapted to the "coarse" bokeh it offers. Now I think it is probably one of the last lenses to sell away, actually :-)

Anyone know the sweet spot for this lens? f/5.6 or f/7.1? I'm taking it to a car show and in charge of getting some coverage with some of the ladies.. I normally rock the 60D and the 16-35 but have the 5Dc and pancake with me all weekend. >>
