I'm trying to sell my 100-400 in favor of a 400mm f/5.6
Just added the 70-200 f/2.8 and a couple of TCs so time for a fixed 400

1dx, 5d2, rebel xt, eos m

8-15 fisheye, 16-35 2.8 II, 24 1.4 II, 35 1.4 , 50 1.2, 70-200 2.8 II, 135 f2, and 400 2.8 II

the 1d and 400 is my workhorse configuration. 70-200 maybe 1/4 of the time. i use the 5d has either a second body with wide lens or mounted on a fence or in cars. the rebel gets mounted on the outside of cars, the eos m gets mounted inside cars.

For a day at the track
2x bodies - currently 1DX, but they havent seen any motorsport yet
16-35, 70-200 and a long lens borrowed from work
1.4xTC and 600ex in the bag (camelbak) along with water, snacks, raingear and spare batteries

For a day in the forest at a rally, the long lens is typically a 300 (although since the upgrade to FF it may be a 400) 2 flashes, speedlite transmitter, flash stands.
Maybe remote gear too (2x multimax, trigger cable, tripod/floorpod or magic arm)

I do want to try rigging a camera up in a tree too, so im going to add a bunch of climbing accessory cord and a throwline/throwbag this year, with a 14mm lens (and probably a camranger to allow access to images and changes to exposure/focus)

Very cool idea to put a camera in a tree :p

You must share results if you're successful! (And if you aren't successful ahah)

It's going to take a while to sort out all the gear and get a platform that works properly.

Once it's done, I will post some pictures !

I do have a habit of doing strange things with cameras, one of my cameras has been rigged on the bonnet of a rally car (doing 100mph thru the forest) to the "wheel of death" at a circus, hung out the back of a van, and inch off the deck doing 60kph photographing cyclists - its fairly normal for my boss to say "nice pic, now how the f**k did you do it?"
