To me the lighting looks just right so don't worry too much about it :)

thanks mate, would've liked to use a smaller aperture to get more of the wing in focus xD

No problem did you use any flash? I haven't done many macro shots since I got the 100mm, I bought it for product shots and portraits as well but I still love to see the macro shots people come up with!

Yeah that usually makes for great lighting and a tack sharp image :)

I have been meaning to get up early one day and try but never get around to it. The plants in my garden are very dull and although I have resident dragonflies, I feel the shots will be too generic if I don't get some nicer plants. Sometime soon I may go bunnings and get some plants to attract some butterflies to my yard!

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Damn, this lens produces some gorgeous photos! The subject really pops out from the background! All shot with the 6D in natural light....

Great portraits :) this is one of many very underrated lenses, although I haven't used it much for that purpose, I definitely agree it is great for portraits!
