I use right-click protection for non experienced people who dont know how to go around it :). But the only thing that could protect your images is watermarking them but even that you can sometimes remove with photoshop.

And you can edit it using CSS and put a personalized message in when someone right clicks.

I've already had a lot of new ideas from browsing some of the examples here, but this is my first effort as it currently stands:

http://www.arup-photography.com/ (external link)

It's more there as a repository for what I consider to be some of my better shots, but the odd sale here and there certainly wouldn't be a bad thing! I would love any advice, thoughts and feedback (good & bad ofc). I'll probably add an "About" and "Blog" section soon once I figure out if there is anything interesting about me at all :D

Cheers, James

Your site looks nice and clean.
I like the still life with the circle of stones.

I wish SmugMug would get out of the 90's and drop the right-click protection.

Agreed - that is SO 90's - and useless to boot as it is so easy to get around. Perhaps a lot of people don't realize it that use it, but it also blocks right-clicking for such things as "add to favorites" and copying links, or even seeing what the URL is. It stops the total internet novice, but that is about all.

Seems to me that just watermarking would be a better solution.

The right click thing is an option in the setting. You can turn it on and off with a simple check box in the setting panel. I turned it on because I decided not to watermark my Smugmug photos. I think it looks a lot cleaner that way. Sure, anyone can still steal the images, but it at least offers some protection.

I agree. An about page would help so people know who you are. That's usually the first thing I go to. A home page or main single image page would be good too.

Using CSS you can customize the right click message and put your own personal message in saying anything you want.

Love the simple, clean style. If you don't mind my asking, can you provide a few more details? Which theme are you using? How is the homepage slideshow done?

Thanks.

Thanks Brent! I am using a modified version of the Max theme. The slideshow feature is one of the page options in the new Smugmug design.

I love it. How did you make your header so thin, and move the logo to the left?

Just play around with all the margins and borders. You can use negative numbers too to make them even smaller.

Love the KLM 747 photo. The reflection in the water is really cool.
