Thanks, I did the question because I remember that the 50D was bigger than 70D and I was very surprised to see it so litlle. Now I have a 400D and I'm searching something bigger than it.

I can say with certainty it is bigger and feels a whole heck of a lot better than my previous DSLR, an 1100D/T3. Of course, it doesn't take much to do that; I made a big jump, and am happy as can be about it.

The 18-55mm STM kit lens is quite sharp and very good for close-up work when you don't have a macro lens. These flowers are rather small; I'm pretty sure it is a Bradford Pear tree.

In other news, people are suckers for flowers. Posed these two to 500px and they were my first photos to make "Popular"...and they both did it in about ten minutes. :)

Also, I suuuuck at PP this kind of photo. These are SOOC JPEG and I couldn't get LR to make them anywhere near as good. I'm good at making moody photos as moody (read: dark & contrasty, both color and B&W) as I want, but give me something bright and bubbly like this and the camera beats me every time.

Hello Canon 70D users,

I just recently purchased the camera bundle with the standard lens, however I am wanting to get football sport shots. Can someone advise a lens that would be allow me to achieve good shots firing camera from stands without breaking the bank..Are there any non canon lens that would be compatible? Mind you, Im no pro, just an amateur wanting good pics of my kid.

Thanks in advance,
Pathgirl

Do you have any sort of budget we can work from? Break the bank is very different for everyone.

(Also, welcome to POTN!)

Sigma 50-150 2.8 Ex Dc Hsm is a good candidate for a crop.

Welcome to POTN!

Assuming you wish to stay in the inexpensive part of the range, the EF-S 55-250 STM ($313 at B&H) or the EF 70-300 USM ($514 at B&H) are good (and reasonably inexpesive) candidates.

From third party, you could look at the Tamron 18-270 PZD ($449).

Please note that all these options are quite slow (f5.6-f6.3) at the telephoto end, so it may be challenging for shooting night games.

There are better choices but in the 4 digit range...:D

Outside (meaning decent amount of light), fast moving sports (where image stabilisation is quite unnecessary) I would vote for the Canon EF 70-200mm F4 L non - image stabilized lens. I guess the prices for used ones are reasonable and you get some of the best IQ's there are available, that can be taken advantage of for other purposes too. The focusing of that lens is amazingly fast. It it were me, I would get that lens with tripod collar and use monopod to rest the camera&lens with.

I might add that if you have to shoot inside, maybe better to enjoy the game and forget the shooting (considering low budget) ;) Usually photographers just forget to enjoy things around them when they concentrate to photography.

Like the first image better (framing just looks better to my eye). I feel that in this pic it means a lot to have that one small sky colored dot in the tower. If the tower were totally black it would somehow make the whole image too dark ;)

Wonderful light and very suitable subject for that light.

Thanks for the speedy reply to question that I posted earlier. I just received my Canon 70D camera that I purchased from B&H about a week ago. I have taken some great shots with camera, however I have noticed that standard lens will not satisfy my taste. So I was trying to get an lens preferably from 500.00 to under the 1000.00 mark. The camera was bundled and after rebate was 1248. Would you all also advise a need for a flash for outdoor night shots? (Being on a football field is normally lit well)

Thanks again for advice,
Pathgirl

You may want to offer some details as to what you are unhappy with about your lens. Not sharp enough? Not wide or long enough? Does not work well when the light is not good? It is important for us to know before anybody can make an informed recommendation.

A flash for a football field just does not work. Any external on-camera flash can reach only so far, and the football field is way too large for that.
