Got A7 in hand. Just perfect size. That loud shutter sound is louder than 5D's shutter. I wish sony retained touch screen feature of Nex5N.

Anyone using A7R as a secondary camera and still using their DSLR as a primary?

I am.

As a wedding/event camera, the 5DIII's speed (AF, wake-up, etc) is still very much a necessity. For controlled portraits, however, I've found myself using the a7r more often.

It's the opposite for me. As someone who doesn't need blazingly fast AF with a gazillion focus points, I found my 5D3 to be redundant after I bought the A7R.

I love the resolution and DR from the A7R. The RAW-files are rich with loads of data, and they hold up a lot better during heavier post processing. This is pretty much why the A7R has become my one and only camera.

I know my answer would be different if I was a wedding / event photographer.

I do photography for fun and travel. I have a 6D with a 24-70 MK II that never leaves my camera it seems like. My wife has a EOS M however she wants to step up to an SL1 however I would rather her grab a A7 since the size is about the same (plus I want to play with it as well). I guess I just wanted to hear some thoughts on that proposal.

Oh. Well in that case I think she should just pick the camera that feels most comfortable in her hands. :)

She should probably go with a Canon. As much as I love my A7R, I must say that Canon wins when it comes to ergonomics and handling.

I am, I find several issues with the A7r
1. AV and TV don't work so I have to shoot manual
2. AWB is bad,
I use my Canon 5D2/&D combo for recent trips and model photoshoot

1. I've not used the camera, but is it maybe set to an odd metering mode (i.e. spot metering on just one tiny area of the frame, and thus not giving you the results you expect)?
2. That's what raw is for ;)

Camera, some lenses, too little time, too little talent

I will just my metering I have use center focus, all the time.
2. I always shoot raw and does WB adjustments, but it is not always that you can eye drop on a neutral post in a landscape.
no WB adjustment

Tony,

1. If you use third party lenses with a Canon mount with your a7r and have the Metabones smart adapter III, Av and Tv work fine. Auto focus works as well...just slowly. Manual focus is very easy with the aids the camera provides. If you're using a 'dumb' adapter then yes, Av won't work and you'll have to set that while the lens is mounted on your Canon camera first. And of course, if you have Sony lenses for your a7r, everything works as it should too.

2. It's been my experience that the AWB on the a7r is a bit on the cool side. Sometimes I prefer that look...otherwise in Photoshop's camera raw editor, all I need to do is select 'daylight' for an outdoor shot for example and the color tones look warmer as you might expect. I find it very easy to choose the white balance that pleases me the most on the a7r raw files.

thanks, for the info, I use metabones now on Canon lenses and the Sony FE55, on AV it keeps on electing 1/60, I do have many good images and the landscape on camera panorama looks good to me
aha I will use the daylight exteriro setting, been using eye dropper on the nearest white neutral I find,( I tested this in LR and it wrked, good info)
Yesterday I did not shoot with the Canon and simply enjoyed my walk with the A7r.

Cheers,
Tony
