"Perform" is a term that means different things to different people. If "performance" means faster/more accurate AF, or better high ISO capabilities, etc. then, sure, the 5D III outperforms the a7 and a7R.

I wouldnt even subscribe to that. While my 5D3 clearly has faster AF in most situations, it is not as accurate as the sony. That little gem almost never misses a shot and the face-af just snaps on the the eye, it even manages backlight very well. i am still very impressed with it and -for my work- it even works better than the 5D3 in some (not any of course) cases.

and the sony has much less shadow noise, you can push those files pretty brutal without getting any of that blotchy color banding stuff the canon sensors do even at low iso.

5D III | 35mm 1.4L | 85mm 1.8 | 135mm 2.0L | 24-70mm 2.8L | 80-200mm 2.8L | Sony A7 | 55mm 1.8

I use heavy manual-focus Canon-mount lenses, and when they are mounted on my a7 and a7R they work and feel fantastic to me; far better than they feel on my 5D III.

And it just so happens that my Canon-mount 17mm, 21mm, 24mm, 35mm, 55mm, 100mm, and 135mm lenses are all superior at their respective focal lengths than any native Sony FE-mount lenses, so that's another good reason to use Canon-mount lenses on the a7/a7R. ;)

and i won´t ever put non native glass on it as it will make the cam bigger and autofocus is just rubbish. so as a people photographer, A7 is exactly what i wanted :)

What native glass do you have besides 55FE? There are only 4 FE lenses released so far. Another reason many of us use other lenses on Sony A7/r is because there are not that many choices out there.

the 55 1.8 fits just fine for much of the work i do. hope there will be something like an 105 2.0 until the end of the year, than i am all good ;)

Well it just depends what you want. I dont need 36mpixel ...... faster write times and i dont need as much storage space and cpu time to work the files.:)

You are aware that Sony's Raw files from A7r are smaller in size than your Canon 5DM3 Raw files, right? The Raw files from Sony A7r are in 30mp size range. One of the reasons of course is that Sony is cooking the Raw files and they are probably 12Bit unlike Canon's 14bit, but judging from DXO comparison results, these 12bits produce better image quality, Dynamic Range, lower noise than Canon's 14bit.

I doubt it's the limited len's selection. Most here are using the a7/r in regards of an adapter to be able to use their collection of lens from other brands.

hmm.....

After two months of owning the A7r, I am beginning to enjoy this little camera. It will be my travel camera and maybe start using it to shoot models. I have a meet up shoot tomorrow with a pretty model and will try it as well on Sunday with a friend who is publishing a book and she wants a picture for use in the book jacket. I will use the Sony FE55, try the Canon 85 F1.8 and 70-200 F2.8 series II.
The adjustments over the last two months:
1. I found the auto iso with Av setting bad, so I now shoot Av but manually adjust the iso to get my desired shutter speed.
2. I use the grey card and adjust WB, without a neutral color to eye drop I use daylight and adjust. The Auto WB is not good.
3. I patiently wait for the AF, very slow and use middle focus. (BTW I don't jerk anymore as I get startled by the loud shutter).

I am also adjusting to shooting with th prime 55. I post processed a few of my Siem Reap images and like the results with FE55 lens.
patiently waited for AF confirmation

My a7r must be broken. :D On a typical file from my 5D3, file size averages about 28+mb and on my Sony a7r, they are around 35+mb. Of course the file size varies depending on how much detail they contain. Raw files that have been processed are larger than those that have not.

3) new native FE lenses are even worse in that size regard. the 70-200 F/4 FE that is coming out later this month is actually heavier than either 70-200 F4L or 70-200 F4L IS FYI.

It's not heavier. The weight includes the lens collar on the Sony.
