Managed to process a few photos from diving in Borneo (Mabul/Sipadan) a month ago.

Here is a small selection of what we got to see!

What is your setup? I use an Aquatica housing with my Canon 5dM3 and two Ikelite 161 strobes.

Incredible series! What kind of underwater housing are you using? I assume you are lighting these somehow as well?

Sean

I use a 7d in an ikelite housing with 2xDS160s
Use the 100L and tokina 10-17 FE

(maybe one day I will go full frame UW - but I love the 7d for underwater work; esp macro stuff)

I had an Ikelite housing and really didn't like the layout of the buttons. It was hard to access a lot of he Canon menus with the Ikelite. I love my Aquatica housing. One of the biggest issues with the Ikelite is how it locks the lenses. I do not like the 4 latches on the housing.

One of the things I find most frustrating is that I can't use back button focusing on the ikelite housing due to the distance between the * button and the shutter lever.
Just means that its much harder to alternate between MF and AF.

Is it different on the aquatica?

And yeah - the lens port system worries me every time I get into the water :)
But hey, it works for now.

Have you insured it through DAN? You know DAN has equipment insurance as well.

I can't get DAN equipment insurance in NZ. But my insurance company fortunately covers it if it floods.

Get two sets.
One is for wide angle; and keep your 7D set for macro.
Now, I'm shopping for another set for macro photo; either a 70D or 7D, or wait for 7D Mark II? I can't decide.

I used Ikelite housing few years ago, until it was leaking from the focus light mount on the top of the housing. Then I made a switch to Aquatica, and I'm very happy. It is built like a tank, and I have no worries bringing my camera underwater. Sorry Ikelite! And the buttons are easy to reach. Maintenance is easy.
