Is this the much awaited D300s replacement? How will this match up with the new EOS 7D2 Mark II?

How will it match up? People who shoot Canon will buy the 7D2 while Nikonians will buy the D9300 in droves ;)

I don't think the 9300, or any future 7D2, will be as successful as the original D300 or 7D were.

Many people bought the originals because they were the best APS-C bodies available, and much cheaper than full-frame. Full-frame bodies have come down a lot in price, which leaves dedicated action photographers, who need the fast frame rate, as the main target audience of these cameras. Unfortunately, the APS-C sensor size leaves precious little room for cropping, which is another thing typically needed for action (particularly wildlife) photography...
