Hi POTN members!

I know it's another boring what lens to get thread.

I've just filed my tax return and have a little bit of money to spend on a lens for fun.

The two lens I'm currently looking at are either the Zeiss Otus 55mm/1.4 or the Canon 200/2.0 L IS

I mainly shoot portraits and fashion and here are some samples of my work http://rwong2k.500px.com (external link) (beginner warning)

I mainly shoot outdoors around f/2.0 ~ 2.8 all the time with my strobes (Einstein) using nd filters mainly on my 70-200/2.8

I am familiar with manual focus lens, the only one I currently have left is the Zeiss makro planer 50mm/2.0

Any comments or suggestions of either one of these lens?

I'm sure after resize and display for web it's all the same, but wanted to try something for fun for my style of shooting

thank-you in advance

Ray

Heya,

200 F2L if you can, at least, that's what I would do. Amazing lens.

But really, I'd get something between the two. Like the Sigma 85 F1.4. Keeps that F1.4 while getting into telephoto ranges. But ultimately the 200 F2 is simply better for what you're doing likely (as you'll likely never shoot at F1.4, for those kinds of shots you're doing).

Very best,

I'd get the 200/2 now. Sigma is claiming the new 50/1.4 Art will compete with the Otus and if true will much more bang for the buck. It's at least waiting to see especially since you have the Zeiss now.

Canon 7D/350D, Σ17-50/2.8 OS, 18-55IS, 24-105/4 L IS, Σ30/1.4 EX, 50/1.8, C50/1.4, 55-250IS, 60/2.8, 70-200/4 L IS, 85/1.8, 100/2.8 IS L, 135/2 L 580EX II, 430EX II * 2, 270EX II.

Given your current kit, I'd say the 200/2 would be the best fit, as long as your bank acct can handle it.
