G1X Mark II

Does anyone know why the RAW files weren't made compatible and when it will happen?

Almost every new camera tweaks the RAW files enough that a version update in ACR/Lightroom is needed.

FYI- I just checked out B & H, and it shows this thing will be available April 9th....which matches the discussion I had a few weeks ago with the B & H customer service rep who said they were thinking the camera would come in "ahead of schedule".

I had emailed because I noticed the waterproof housing was in stock, so I was trying to understand if they were going to send it separate or wait for the camera itself to come in stock, and he seemed to suggest that I might as well wait at this point because it wouldn't be very long.

So...we'll see what happens.

That would be nice, but Canon's still displaying April's 28th as due date....however there are accessories available at B&H that Canon's store still show as not available

Does anyone know if the front ring on the lens will multi function, I know the back ring on the lens can do Fstop and Exposure Compensation. The front ring appears to be capable of fine focus when shooting macro, but I have not read any manual instruction yet and I'm wondering if you can customise it to do other functions.

Adobe just announced Lightroom 5.4, with preliminary support for the G1x Mk II. This release also enables Lightroom to work with a new app on the iPad though, so they've probably added a lot of new code (and maybe some bugs). It might be worth downloading and trying it though.

Yes, I got a phone call from my mate this morning about the update, he tells its not a full update and has a # or * against it telling you it may not have the full camera profile but you will be "cooking on gas" as regards to its raw files.

This is why I loved the G1X Mk I and will love the Mk II just as much, a lightweight backpackable landscape machine with lots of bonuses:

For those who don't have the latest Photoshop or Lightroom (and don't mind a DNG workflow) the free DNG converter is now updated including similar preliminary support for the G1X Mark II

I love the lighting of the valley in that first shot; awesome!

Thanks CameraBuff. I was actually climbing that mountain and the firetower on top to access possible timelapse with the G1X Mk I. I think I will go back someday for just that.

My credit card just got charged from B & H, with my "order sent to the warehouse" per their online status...so it looks like it'll be on it's way soon.

You getting the EVF as well? Or just the camera? Trying to decide if I should get the EVF.

No EVF at this point. I did get the waterproof housing though.

As the G1X MKII will be a secondary camera with size being a consideration, I didn't think it made sense to get the EVF, and instead I'll use this like I did the EOS-M. But- if I find myself missing the viewfinder and using the camera a considerable amount, I might pick up the EVF. I'm going to wait and hear some more thoughts on it from users, including pictures of how much bigger it makes the camera overall, and decide from there.

Yeah, that's kind of my thought process as well. I'm excited about the improvements to the camera, but $300 more for the EVF is less exciting. Just pulled the trigger on the G1X II and an extra battery. Hoping to shoot with it this weekend at the Cherry Blossom Festival in DC.

Should be arriving here tomorrow. A shame I will be at work all day though.
