Doing prison like a boss. In May of 1929, Al Capone was arrested outside of a movie theater in Philadelphia for carrying a concealed & unlicensed .38 revolver. He served 8 out of the 12 month sentence in this cell at Eastern State Penitentiary.

Pyro, we did the tour there in Oct 2012. That spot was a shot I got as well. It was interesting as my wife felt a lot of non physical activity at the whole site. I can't wait to go again and this time has my DSLR.

Soooo....I got this camera a week ago. So far I really like it, but I'm trying to figure out if I'm being overly critical about the camera ORRRR if I just need to start getting better at using it.

Here are a few pics I've been able to shoot with it so far...

I'm using a 24-105L with all of the photos. I feel like I get sharp photos, but there's also a lot of softness. In the photo of the tree overlooking the valley I was shooting other photos in the same area and setting my focal point on the mountain in the back; it seemed that at a variety of apertures the foreground objects would be soft and almost appear painted when viewed on a larger monitor.

I also noticed that last night when I was shooting with a higher ISO that pictures were getting noise at a much lower than I had anticipated based on reviews of the camera. I'll admit that I can shoot at a higher ISO than I was with my old 1DMKII, but over 3200 and the pictures were noticeably noisy. Is this common? Is it possibly due to shooting in a very dark setting?

I'm just trying to figure out if it's me, the lens or the camera! Oh, I did also notice there is a more noticeable amount of vignetting in the corners than I had on my 1D; I'd guess this is due to being full frame?

Thanks for reading [and replying to] my nonsense!

Oh, and I'm shooting RAW.

For the part in bold, one fix would be to look into hyperfocal distance if your goal is to get as much "in focus" as possible. By setting focus to what's essentially infinity (setting your focus on the mountains in the back), it's inevitable that the foreground will be soft. Even if you stop down to something like f/16 and above, you'll be introducing diffraction which will further degrade your IQ.

And with respect to ISO- you provided a camera that you used to use but no real context. What ISO are you using with your findings? For example, moving from a 50D to a 6D, I saw at least a 2 stop improvement to ISO (ISO3200 on my 50D was comparable to ISO 12800+ on my 6D).

My initial guess is that you might've hyped the capabilities of the camera a bit too much based on the rave reviews. Perhaps after seeing a couple of samples to show your issues, I may be swayed towards another conclusion.

Messing around today with my son launching some hotwheels cars...Not really good pics because as we all know the 6D can't shoot fast and I was hell bent on shooting at like F1.4-F2 to try to isolate the car, which really meant pick a spot, put lens on manual and continuous shoot a hope one comes out...
They are fun though which is why I am posting them.

Thanks! And I defer to Dwain as that is correct.

I must say though, this was the first time I used the continuous shooting mode on the 6d, and that is definatly not why you buy this camera. Which is good for me because clearly I don't need fps very much:lol:

I personally find this photo a tad offensive, but I don't know.
I guess I'm kinda on the fence about it.

Gear: Yes.
Insert stupid photography quote here to make me more of a photographer.
