Unless there's some major flaw (which I can't find) I'm really contemplating about getting this instead of the 150-600 or the Canon 70-200 IS II. I personally love the black body & black lens color scheme.

I need your input...i'm looking at picking one of these up second hand from a fellow POTN'er...it's in excellent condition but he made a comment and I'm wondering if it's his particular lens or this lens overall...he said that the 200mm side of the lens isn't a true 200mm but is more like 186mm on a full frame...does this sound right? Are you guys experiencing this?

Thank you for any help! I hope to be part of this Tamron 70-200 family soon!!!

I think that is a true observation, I had noticed the same thing when switching from the Canon. But, as far as I shoot now, I don't see it to be an issue. At least a couple steps forward isn't a big deal.

I think it has to due with distances. Talley did a comparison I think, and the tamron at shorter distances, is less than 200, but as you approach infinity, it becomes 200.

the 186mm comment is based on lensrental's test lab I think, which isnt the same as a field test.

I was reading one review about this lens having 'inconsistent' focus. Is anyone having this issue by any chance? It's really the only thing that's holding me back...I have a wedding to shoot and do want the VC but not sure I want to spend $2K for the Canon just yet.

Mine worked great for the wedding that I did. No focussing issue at all.

I rented the Tamron for a weekend and paired it with my 60d and a 6d. No focus issues on either camera. Wonderful bokeh. I isn't a true 200mm but if you're shooting people/portraits, it won't matter. If you were trying to use it for sports then you might care more about it not having the same amount of reach as the Canon version, you might not.
Overall, I found it to be a wonderful lens.
