B&H has the 50mm ART available for pre-order!

http://www.bhphotovideo.com …01_50mm_f_1_4_dg_hsm.html (external link)

by phone only, and according to someone on FM the pre-order amount was $950

Woot!

This lens has so much win written all over it seriously, watch the used 50L price tank and drop below $800 which I still won't buy lol

I don't see any answer from Canikon which can compete with this. All Canon will do is either a 50LII and charges $2k but still won't be as good as the Sigma, or some lame 50 f2 IS for $800.

Yep and Nikon has already blown their load with the 58/1.4G. The best advantages of the 50/1.4G over the 50 Art are its lower price, lower weight and very nice focus ring (particularly considering it is an AF lens). The 58 is 2-3 times the cost of the Sigma and probably a similar weight. I haven't handled one though - at 5 times the price of my 50/1.4G I don't see the point - so I can't talk to its focus ring.

I actually did take photos today and even shared them here:cool:

I am done with bakewell, and this will be my last comment/response to anyone not referring to the lens itself or release dates.
The rest needs to be those coming on a thread about a lens and saying negative things about it that are not constructive. You also kimda contradicted yourself. The reason there are 20+ posts from people is because there actually ARE MANY buyers here, so your doubt is quite far from reality. I never buy on release anything, and I am preordering this along with MANY others here. This isn't a canon vs. sigma thing, it is purely a lens thing. If canon was making this for around the same alleged price, I would be equally as excited and active on this thread, the only difference would be it would be an entire thread praising canon from everyone.

Sorry, but it is looking to be an affordable optical monster that is worth getting excited over for people who enjoy the 50 FL.

Speaking of "rest" maybe you should give it one.

My wife dropped my Canon 50mm 1.4 and I need to replace it. After reading this thread I'm thinking I might hold out for the Sigma if it's that good? Will cost more but might be worth saving that extra money for it, especially as I was disappointed in the build of the Canon 1.4.

Canon 5d mark II - 17-40L - 100mm 2.8L Macro - Sigma 50mm 1.4 Art - Sigma 50-500mm - 580EXII - Manfrotto 190CXPRO4 + Junior Geared 410 - Manfrotto 680B + Joystick 222 - lots of other little things.

Stumbled on a preorder price from Leederville Cameras A$898.

http://leedervillecameras.com.au …mm-f1-4-DG-HSM-ART-SERIES (external link)

Based on this I would expect US pricing to be circa $750

I don't think that is a good assumption about the US price. The Sigma 35mm f/1.4 sells for around $779 AUD in Australia, but sells for $899 USD over here. Since the 50mm is $120 more than the 35mm in Australia, it stands to reason that in the states it should be at least $100 more than the 35mm here. That would put the price at around $999 USD.

The bh page still isn't working....maybe it was being prepared by the web staff to have ready when the time comes? I have seen that before with large Internet based companies with product web pages, but I think it is an accident for it to go live.

Are you saying Sigma 50 1.4 beats Canon 50 1.2L?

Who can say at this point. However, SLRGear's review implies it competes very well with the $4000 Zeiss prime,

I'm much more impressed with these images than with what I've seen out of the 35. If I didn't find the 50mm FoV dreadfully boring, I'd consider it.
