I have the opportunity to purchase a 70-200 f/4L. Its about 2 to 3 years old and in excellent condition. BUT it has a loose focus ring. Works fine in autofocus.

I know it's not uncommon to see this problem. What is the repair cost for the issue so I can price it accordingly? Or should I just stay away and buy a brand new one?

Heya,

Seeing as the lens goes for $450ish used in very good condition, I don't see why you'd bother with one that is already showing signs of needing repair, at 2~3 years old (when it's actually a very old lens).

Very best,

Agree with MalVeauX. Repair probably is fairly costly. I'd just buy another used copy in excellent condition.

It's a bit harder to find them used in Canada....this one here is local.

Heya,

It's a good lens, but I would pass honestly. It doesn't have weather sealing. It doesn't have IS. And it already has an issue that you have to just live with, or get repaired (that repair will at least cost you $200+ from Canon I'm guessing because frankly everything they do costs about that or more for minor things). I had this lens and sold it after a while because frankly, it's just not that great anymore with what else is available now.

Very best,
