A body that would let me shoot with a travel zoom at 1/500sec & f8 and minimal image noise, that would suit me.

Some stuff.

I have the 1D4 that I use for air shows. Because the subject is at a distance, often I'll crop the image. I'd love to have a 1.3x crop body that had more than 16 mp. It would give me more mp to crop from.

Try a 1DX.
Far lower pixel density but nicer images - perhaps that's why?
Much as I loved my 1D4 (who wouldn't!) I am much happier with the 1DX. Does it "Reach" as far, with a given lens, not quite but it is much closer than you might think. More importantly when the subject is in (or almost in) range then the images are significantly better. That is not to mention the significant improvement in high ISO and AF performance.

Life is for living, cameras are to capture it (one day I will learn how!).

ok so a 5dm3 is basically the same as the 7d but a few frames slower,so if what your saying to all the people waiting for a 7dm2 is stop waiting and buy a 5dm3 but what i and everyone is hoping for is a 7dm2 which will have better specs than a 5dm3 and be about 1k cheaper,I've seen 7d in my local used adds for about 800 i haven't seen a 5dm3 for 800 yet,I'm still looking though haha.

Indeed. To many on this site, price seems to be an afterthought.

I'd say a 7DMKII is quite likely, just because lots of people would buy it. Even if it's just a 70D with magnesium alloy body and without a flippy screen.

Isn't that called the "Nikon D7100".

I have a 7D and a 5DII. I know what I got, because I read all the rave reviews when they first came out and all the negative press after they had been around awhile.

For me, there are an awful lot of bells and whistles on these cameras to suit my needs. I can't see how any more will make me a better photographer.

I will learn to live with what I got, and keep my money for gas to go shoot somewhere new.

For everyone who needs that new body for whatever reason, I'm sure Canon will come up with something big soon. They can't be that incompetent as a company, to not be competitive.

The big question is and always will be, what's next?

Canon 5D Mk IV | Canon 5D Mk II | Canon 7D | Canon 30D
Canon EF 16-35L IS | Canon EF 24-105L IS | Canon EF 70-200L 2.8 IS II | Canon EF 100-400L IS II | Canon EF 50mm-f/1.8
Canon EF-S 17-85 IS | Canon EF-S 18-55 | Canon EF 70-300 IS | RRS TVC 34L Tripod | RRS BH-55 Ballhead

There will not be a 7D II that will have better specs than a 5D III yet be cheaper. It might be cheaper and have worse specs, or it'll be more expensive and have better specs. But it won't be cheaper with better specs.

This!

I'd rather spend on the glass.

Very best,

Valid point. 7D is an awesome camera as it is. Bit of quality glass would go a long way. I know people say its a bit noisy at high ISO. To be honest I'm not a 6400/12800 shooter anyway.

If there is a mega pixel monster I might be interested especially if it has a flip out LCD which is very useful for macro tripod work.

It's out already and is called the A7R.

All I know if that very old cameras are still being used, and some amazing photos are bing posted in this forum each day. Just look at the 5D classic forum, and so the 40D. New features make things easier for us, but not necessarily the ability of creating better photos.

Great photos were made 50 years ago. Cameras are tools. Photographs are the ones that make the photos.

Keep waiting if you think you'll get a better specked camera than the 5d3 for much cheaper. Canon is not stupid.

So you would spend upwards of a $1,000 for that. Why not just get the 70D and never flip out the screen and save yourself a bundle?
