Sure, the A7R gets more noise at high ISO, but not much more than the 5D3, the difference is not big to me.

Charlie wrote in post #16841114 (external link)
well it's not just noise, but smearing of the A7r. The noise isnt that bad, but all the detail is gone at 1600+

at the lower iso's, the camera seems very good.

So the 5D3 sensor is better than the Sony as far as noise is concerned? That is totally shocking to me.

36mp vs 21 mp. The pixel density on the A7r is much higher so more noise. What I have seen, the noise pattern is easier to clean and there is more dynamic range so when you lift shadow, its not a problem. I bought it for landscape photography so its not big deal, I will shoot at ISO 50/100 anyway. At that ISO, the image quality is great.

Slightly better at high ISO, the A7R being miles ahead at base ISO.

But when you sample down the mp of the A7R to 21mp, the noise would be same or better than the 5D3.

S when will we have that camera with high ISO and high mp, say 40mp and it is clean at ISO 10000 and rocket speed focus? So what else we want?

I'm not seeing any smearing or loss of detail Charlie. Here are a couple of shots I took awhile ago using three different lenses. These were some low light test shots I did of my bar.

You must have applied quite a lot of noise reduction because my A7r is a lot noisier. I just took a shot outside @ ISO 6400 and it had a significant amount of noise.

Well, even my 1DX is noisy at ISO6400, but i apply some noise reduction by software and it doing great then, so, what do you expect with this camera, to be clean no noise or much cleaner at higher ISO say 1000-6400?

Apply noise reduction and you will just be fine, now you saw the examples here with ISO6400 and you said yours is noisier, then either you live with that noisier you have or you must apply a noise reduction if that is applied to those above images, no another solution and stop moaning.

I am giving a perspective that I see compare to my 5d3 raw files. I does cleanup very well. Better than the 5d3. It's important that we show transparency when we post picture. that what not a result straight from the camera
