And a final update for now:

Finally it is here

Congrats Tareq, glad you finally got the adapter so you can go out and shoot. I'm looking forward to your images and impressions.

You must have applied quite a lot of noise reduction because my A7r is a lot noisier. I just took a shot outside @ ISO 6400 and it had a significant amount of noise.

Of course there is noise but it is very fine grained and can be controlled well with a bit of noise reduction. Here is a link to view one of the bar dice shots uncropped and full sized. I have applied noise reduction to it but no sharpening.

I am giving a perspective that I see compare to my 5d3 raw files. I does cleanup very well. Better than the 5d3. It's important that we show transparency when we post picture. that what not a result straight from the camera

I don't think there is a question in anyone's mind as to whether or not post processing is being done on all digital images shown on this site. It is MORE often when an image IS taken straight from the camera that it is noted by the photographer.

I want to know the capability of a given camera's sensor. Most images from full frame cameras clean up very well. BUT the real issue is how far can an image be taken? I know the famous canon banding is a REAL issue for anyone interested in landscape photography. The canon image can only be pushed so far. Combine that with the inherent smaller dynamic range on the canon sensor and serious problems are encountered.

So in the real world it is important to see how a low light image such as those posted by navydoc can be cleaned up. No one familiar with digital imagery is thinking that such images are SOOC.

All of the DXO testing shows that the best canon sensor is in the 6D anyway. NOT the 5D3.

I'll probably do a comparison eventually. My brother has the A7r + Nikon 50mm F1.2 AI, a really capable lens. I have the 6D + 50L. Unfortunately, his EF adapter from china is broken.

He has the "Viltrox" varient, which generally makes good adapters. His adapter was simply poorly made, and not aligned correctly (you can clearly see it with a careful eye). The company is issuing a replacement.......

it's been a fun exercise for sure. I have only 1 manual glass, and have been playing with a bunch of cheapo manual glass my brother acquired, and I didnt know you can flick aperture back and forth with some of the older lenses. A really cool feature.

some of the older glass are really poor optics too.....

I posted these before, shortly after I received my Sony a7r. I was very curious about Sony files and how well they did when opening up shadows. Here are before and after views of the same image taken with my Sigma 35mm f1.4. I hope no one minds me posting them again for anyone that hasn't seen them.

That more than any thing I have seen encapsulates the differences between a modern Sony Sensor and a Pre-industrial Canon offerings. bw!

Holy Cow! This is what I mean. That shot would be un useable if it were from a canon sensor. Thank you Doc!

I had these two images set as private for some reason. I just changed that to public so you can view them at a larger size if you wish. The uploaded image resolution is 2560 pixels on the long side.
