This is a perfect example of how the Sony sensor is being cripple by a lens that doesn't have enough resolution.

the 50mm vs the 55mm both at F8 on the Sony A7r

Now look at the difference when I use the 50mm F1.8 on the 5D3

The lens can't handle the 36mp sensor.

man, that 55 dont mess around..... that's some sharp optics.

Rick, my feeling is that for photographers like you the a7R represents more positives than negatives. The dynamic range and resolution is just killer.

1. I do feel the metabones III adapter is recommended - Novoflex is working on one too, but till then I don't like the alternatives. I primarily use my Zeiss MF lenses with the Metabones adapter and I feel it's a fantastic fit. As an accessory to the Metabones adapter

I hightly recommend the Hejnar Photo L-bracket and spacer. This means the Metabones adapter is bearing the full load of the lens and camera when mounted to a tripod. I'm not at all enthused with the notion of using a camera-mounted L-bracket on my a7 and a7R cameras because then the camera's lens mount has to bear the full burden of the cantilevered adapter and lens. Having the L-bracket attached to the Metabones adapter puts everything in better balance.

2. I have an a7 and a7R and don't have any light leak issues. I did slip a simple rubber o-ring to reduce any potential concerns, but frankly I haven't seen it.

Another potential unwanted light issue concerns the Metabones adapter itself. Apparently stray light can bounce around inside the adapter and reduce contrast. I'm not sure, but I think this mainly affects TS-E lens users. I've tested/experienced it myself with my TS-E 24mm II. I even took pains to install black flock paper - the same stuff Canon uses inside the TS-E lens - on my Metabones adapter. Not sure if it really helped though.

3. Don't know about a proper Intervolometer, but I did purchase this cable release which lets me do bulb exposures. I have a Promote Control I use with my 5D III, but it's incompatible with the a7/R. Grrr.

4. The batteries are small and cheap. http://www.amazon.com …o06_s02_i03?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (external link)

They don't last a whole long time, but it's really easy and not-painful to have an abundance of them. I've got about six of them - total overkill.

Thanks for the detailed answers David! I was reading a review on FM and it showed the L-bracket with the adapter, seems like a good balance/fit since I find an L-bracket as an essential accessory. Which cable release did you end up with? I'm not thrilled with the idea of being tethered to my phone for a remote shutter as I've always preferred a wired (well, preferably wireless) release. Sounds like I'll keep my eye open for an A7R and Metabones adapter.

Well for portrait use, the Nifty Fifty can be used on A7r

It's overpriced, but I got the Sony RM-VPR1 cable release: http://www.amazon.com …ti-Terminal/dp/B00BIK04ZM (external link)

I'm with you - I prefer a cable. :D Unlike Canon cameras, there isn't a "Bulb" mode on the a7/a7R mode dial. But, when you plug the cable in with the camera set to Manual mode, it switches into Bulb mode whenever you set a longer-than-30-second shutter speed.

I've decided to do a photoshoot with only A7 + 55mm f1.8, my Canon gears never leave the bag :)
I love it. RAW file is so much nicer than my 5d3, especially its dynamic range.

I lve never shot a 5d III but the a7r is on par with at high ISO?
Are you sure?

I would say the 5D3 is slightly less noisey at higher ISO`s, but its minimal. At Base ISO, the A7r is in a totally different league. It is the ultimate landscape body in my eyes.

I hope this image isn't too much like "Where's Waldo" but the butterfly is on the daisy just left of center. I was also playing with the late afternoon colors and Topaz Simplify. A7r with the Sony 24-70mm f4 lens.

This is the Samyang 85mm f1.4 (canon version) on the metabones, incredible lens for the price, and so easy to use on the A7r with its focus peaking. It seemed pointless buying the Sony version when the Samyang added end piece was the same size as the Canon version with a Metabones adaptor. At least it can be used on the 5D aswell.

I want to look at Samyang 85. Is it sharp wide open? Can it focus close? also should I get a Canon or Nikon version? I assume Nikon version I can control aperture via the lens? What about Canon version?

it looks like there is now a E mount native version with 1m MFD but amazon is out of stock in Rokinon brand (which I assume is the same as Samyang) http://www.amazon.com …=8-11&keywords=samyang+85 (external link)

How is your Samyang in comparison to my all-time-favorite 85, the cream machine Nikkor 85 1.4D?
