I don't know my impression yet, the weather is very hot and i was sweating, dusty, i don't have a plate for this to put on tripod, and i forgot that standard Manfrotto cameras plate so i was carrying the Manfrotto tripod pointless, all these are handheld.

I want to look at Samyang 85. Is it sharp wide open? Can it focus close? also should I get a Canon or Nikon version? I assume Nikon version I can control aperture via the lens? What about Canon version?

Yes very sharp, suprised me too be honest. I have a Sigma 85mm F1.4 aswell and its very close to that. Doesnt focus that close, probably about a metre. I only got the Canon version because I have a host of Canon lenses to use on the Metabones, but I imagine the Nikon version will be exactly the same.

Definately a lens to check out, the A7r makes it a joy to use, and it is ridiculously cheap.

.

These are great. Were you autofocusing or relying on manual focus on these?

Thank you very much!

Autofocusing? when did this TS-E lens became an AF lens? All manual focus

Sorry, I did not realize the TS-E II was no AF, I only handled the first version of that lens.

Its ok, i hope Canon will produce nicer version of TS-E with AF, that will be something i really want to use much, either TS-E 15mm or 20mm.

My first Brenizer. Sony a7r + Canon 85mm f1.8. 28 exposures.

I soon realized the dynamic range was too great for shooting as jpgs. I'll keep that in mind for the next attempt. Maybe I should have tried full rez raw files. :D

Just as I was setting up to shoot my first Brenizer method image, I had a visitor so I quickly switched back to raw to get this image. This was also shot at f1.8 using my Canon 85mm f1.8 lens.

For the heck of it, I also cropped the original to 100%.

The a7R is pretty good for songbirds; lots of pixels for heavy cropping. :) (f/5.6@700mm, manual focus):

How is your Samyang in comparison to my all-time-favorite 85, the cream machine Nikkor 85 1.4D?

I don't know. only have an 85/1.8D to compare. haven't yet though as the Samyang is so much easier to focus with.
