Not that my images compare with the pros around here, but I like the lens
Seems to work pretty good to me
Not too bad for hand held

Today, first test shots with a Canon 1D4. My Sig doesn't say DG on it. I wonder if I should post elsewhere.
Whole image and crop.

I have the Sigma 180mm f/3.5 non-DG version. Would I be better off by upgrading to the non-DG type? I hear a lot that the DG designation is marketing hype...

Interestingly, I recently compared using a Canon 180L macro and there seems to be quite a difference in focal length / magnification between the Canon and Sigma variants.
I used a 7D/ Canon 180L on a tripod, then swapped out lens, keeping everything else untouched and I noticed quite a focal shift (20-30is mm wide on the Sigma) when focussed on the same point. I was quite supprised. Has anyone else spotted this? Sorry no piccys to validate.

I love how you put the black background with thin white border around your shots, can you give me the recipe to duplicate it please?

Just in case anyone's considering buying this lens versus the alternatives and are wondering whether it's sharp enough, here's a recent sample:

The full image (at f/5, 1/1600s, ISO 100 on a 70D):

You could probably do a bit better with a tripod :)
