I have been using only my canon 50/1.4 for the past week here in Hong Kong on holiday. I have been to this city quite a few times, shot it with a 16-35, 35L and 45/TS, even once a 50mm on crop (so 85mm eqv). i only ever bring 1 lens with me.

I found this time the 50mm being quite difficult to get a shot that i love. I mean i've shot some nice images but I think i prefer 35mm the best. I also think that the canon 50/1.4's sweet spot is f/2.0. Focusing is also more hit and miss than the 35L. I am expecting great things with this Sigma when it arrives.

50mm at 1.4 looks pretty great, it's just that 35mm at 1.4 is a little more dramatic or has more "character", whatever that is.

The photog with the skinny jeans, super action stance and holstered second body is awesome.

Seems the AF is erratic, again (external link). That's too bad!

It performed better than the 50L though based Bryan's previous review of the 50L.

AF seems to be pretty good in AI Servo, which is all I shoot in. Too bad I won't be spending the money...:)

Pretty good review. He mentions the art's AF is better than the previous version but still inconsistent at times. This makes me more certain that there's no point in upgrading since my 50 isn't used as much now.

I have the Sigma 35mm Art lens, and it is as good as my Canon L lenses. I am sure that the 50mm Art would be great too. The samples look very nice to me. Unfortunately I have not been using the 50mm focal length much. The 35Art and 85L suffice most of the time. I wonder if people feel the need for a 50mm if they already have the 35mm and 85mm. Would like to hear about your experiences.

I like both 85 and 50. If I've got a bigger room to work with, the 85 is preferable. If it's a little tight, then the 50 is preferable. If it's really tight, then the 35. Not enough background separation with the 35..... just an opinion from a bokeholic.

I called B and H today. Rep tells me that on the 30th they expect a shipment of 30 lens. Then on the 2nd shipment they expect 450 lens from Sigma. Date unknown on the 2nd shipment however.

Did they give any indication of how many pre orders they have and the times of ordering that get to 30? I got mine in 8 am EST the day they started taking preorders..

I didnt ask about number of pre-orders they have. For me, I ordered online on that day at 12:30AM PDT. However, IMO, I think the 30 will be to VIPs outside of the mass pre-order list. Hopefully, the next batch will follow very soon afterwards.
