A big factor is also the Nr (rotor speed) of the helicopter. A Huey turns at 324rpm compared to an S61 which is down to 200rpm. Here's an example of getting decent (not great) blur on a S61 while the Chinook blade looks almost stopped.

Good point. I think that's the real case in that picture.

I checked the file and found the following info.
shot at 400mm
1/50 sec.
ISO 100
I was using a EF-100-400L

Attempting to shoot choppers reminded me how difficult sharp shots are at low shutter speeds.
Please excuse the f/29, it was a bit rushed flicking down to 1/30 in Tv in bright sunshine on the first shot. One perk to the hard sun was the sharp shadow on the tail rotor.
