All - Looking for some recommendations on indoor/new-born lens (want to avoid using the 580EX2)... The Sigma 17-50 F2.8 AF is slow, and not as sharp as I would like it.
I don't own a FF body yet... Maybe one day!
Glass I am considering:
Sigma 30 1.4 ART
Canon 24 1.4L
Looking for thoughts/suggestions on the above glass or possibly other suggestions....
If you decide to go the prime route:
I really liked the 35L lens when I had it. The focal length seemed about right on a crop and the IQ was excellent. From what I hear the new Sigma Art lenses might even be better. Don't sleep on the 35 f/2 IS either. Also, in my experience the 50mm focal length seemed a bit long indoors on a crop body and the 24mm focal length didn't give me exactly what I was looking for with portraits (too wide and not the most flattering).
If you decide to go with zoom + flash:
The Canon 17-55 IS was another GREAT combination. AF is fast and accurate, IQ exceeded my expectations, and the IS was helpful. Very versatile. I agree with others who have said that children are difficult to photograph with primes (I can't bring myself to say children are difficult to shoot with primes). The flash really improves pictures both inside and outside. Finally, I don't know anything about the Sigma 18-35 but it looks intriguing.
