I just ordered a Canon 70-200 F4 IS lens and want to buy a 1.4x teleconverter. I've reviewed the Tamron and Kenko, and the Canon is too expensive for my taste. So I'm looking for recommendations. Any help would be appreciated.

Look up Mozes on here. He uses the 1.4x Kenko 300 Pro with his 70-200L. Here's one of his shots using that combo...

I just got a Kenko 1.4x 300 Pro DGX to use with my 70-200 F/4, but have not had a chance to use it yet. You can get them for around $125-150 used and they have pretty good reviews.

I have the 1.4 Kenko 300 Pro DG (non reporting version I think), which works very well with my 200f2.8. However, I do not like it with my 100-400 as it hunts on focusing and I'm not all that happy with the IQ as well.

Which has nothing to do with the type of TC. On a 60D any 1.4x on a 100-400 is going to cause problems with AF and IQ.

I use a Kenko 1.4X 300 Pro DGX that allowed autofocus on my 5DMkIII before the firmware upograde on that body (and prior to that on my 7D and 5DMkII) with no issues.
Minimal effect on IQ to my eyes.
Good purchase in my opinion.

Really? You could shoot birds in flight with a 100-400 + 1.4x TC on a 7D?

Thanks. The photo is awesome. Think I'll give the Kenko a try.

I would suggest a used Canon EF 1.4x or EF 1.4x II as the best choice. Second to that would be the Sigma EX 1.4x APO DG AF teleconverter which is similar in function to the Canon. In both cases the lens knows about the teleconverter and updates the EXIF data and tells the lens to focus a bit slower to maintain the accuracy.
