I have a query and wanting to see what makes sense. I missed out on the deal for the A7 from BH when they had the trade in and save, as I was buying the 50L.

I do want to add another body to my lineup and was considering another 6D, but for the same price, I can also get the A7. I am considering the A7r but I really don't need the 36MP resolution, although it wouldn;t hurt!

Speaking in terms of pure IQ, same glass, conditions etc, is the difference massive between the 2 cameras? Im mainly looking for DR and low ISO performance, some which I was never happy with Canon.

the difference between the A7 and 6D?

The A7 will be a little sharper thanks to a lighter AA filter. The well known DR advantage at low ISO and lack of banding are more advantages for the Sony. But I think you probably aren't going to see huge differences unless you are heavily pushing and pulling low ISO raws

I think he wondered about the differences between A7 and A7R, besides the resolution.

ask joonrhee, he sells the A7/A7r for ridiculously good prices, NEW.

yes, pretty massive DR difference at low iso's (if you're into pulling a lot of shadows).

The DR difference is better in the A7r compared to the A7?

In my own shooting I haven't noticed any difference. DXO scored the a7R sensor slightly higher, but their landscape DR score was almost exactly the same (14.2 EV for the a7 vs. 14.1 EV for the a7R) - so no DR difference.

I took a gander at DXO as well, although from what I have heard, I took with a grain of salt. Just some interesting numbers to compare sensors. I just can't justify a 36MP sensor now, and rather get a lens for the price gap between the 2 bodies.

14.1 or 14.2 is small enough to be within the margin of error for the measurements. Especially since it's a logarithmic scale.

Beautiful picture Tomme! What shutter speed and aperture did you use? What time of the night? What phase of the moon? (Where was the Moon during exposure?)
Thanks so much for sharing it!
