Been busy as heck this past month but finally managed to get the USB dock and do some initial calibrations. Would like some opinions, compared to your copies, would you say it is still too soft? Here it is with +20 adjustment to 18mm:

Anything closer than 2m is tack sharp. Distant objects are sharp (albeit with CA at the wide end). Midrange seems to be lacking still. I wonder if it is the autofocus in the T5i or the lens itself.

To be quite honest I think they are both soft. How did you determine the settings with the Dock?

This shot was taken also taken on a very grey and rainy day. The focal length was 18mm at 1/200 sec with an aperture of f/5. If you look at mine full size I think you might agree that its much sharper. Here's the link: http://www.flickr.com …@N05/13172674823/sizes/o/ (external link)

The lens was mounted on my 60D, and although I have the Dock, I haven't make any adjustments to the lens.

I have to agree with you. Thats what I'm hoping to get out of this lens.

I determined the settings by using a 45*angle focus test chart with a checkered target in the middle. This was indoors in imperfect lighting however and had to use a slightly higher ISO of 400. Interestingly for focal lengths other than 18mm it was backfocusing a little bit and needed negative adjustments.

Heres another adjusted the other way to -20. Doesn't seem too different to my eye:

You will also notice in my shot that there is a lot of Chromatic Aberration especially high in the branches where they meet the sky. I usually don't see any where near this amount of CA in my shots.

Still a problem. If +20 is no good and -20 is no good, what does 0 look like?

not really the thread to be discussing problems? this is the samples page after all...

posting images without showing where your focal point was, is difficult to tell if your lens needs adjustment.. the irish pub/restaurant, looking at the 1st 4x4, looks fine with a little sharpen.

Can you try some indoor shots at 18mm?

so fast that the first time i used it, i had to un-focus to focus again to make sure the focus was actually moving..
