I just ordered my first mini figures I need to use my camera more during the week so this will be my practice. I have a question about lens do I need to get a Marco lens or some extenders? The longest lens I have is an 85mm on a cropped body. I also have a 50 1.4.

extension tubes should suffice. Make sure to get electronic ones though.

I was doing more than minifigures but all of mine were shot with the 50 1.4.

Travis how close can you get on the Lego face and a full figure shot? Also do you manual focus or auto?

Sorry I missed this question, I normally auto focus, but depends on how much light the flashes are contributing. With the 50 1.4 minifigures aren't going to be very close up. For this shot I took switched to MF and turned to the minimum focus distance, then got as close as I could without losing focus. This is the framing you get:

I rarely take photos at anything beyond ISO 800 (maybe 1600), so this was a test shot of a handheld low light macro shot of what was on my desk one morning.
