7D Firmware

My 7D has Firmware 2.0.0 ive just found this from canon

for a update to 2.0.5 is this something that need concern me, or am i ok thank you...Ray

It is completely up to you whether the firmware contains something that you want. If you are not going to use the WFT-E5 wireless attachment, then I wouldn't upgrade the firmware, personally.

Firmware Version 2.0.5 incorporates the following fix:

Fixes a phenomenon in which the image files cannot be transferred using the FTP protocol via USB cable after the EOS 7D camera has established a wireless connection to the Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E5 (A/B/C/D).
*: In compliance with the law regarding electro-magnetic waves in each region, there are four types of WFT-E5 (Types A, B, C, and D) for each of the respective target regions.

If you have 2.0.0 you should update. There was a bug, which was corrected from 2.0.3. Now 2.0.5 is available for download, so that's the one you want.

Hmm how do i go about that is it complicated/can anything go wrong/ and do i really need it

Ray, I updated mine few days ago to 2.0.5 without a problem; I did have to plug the CF card directly into the PC slot to get the firmware copied. Update took less than five minutes after it started.

The RAW maximum did go up to 19 frames before it slowed down testing on my x400 Transcend card. Another feature is on Auto-ISO mode you can select up to 6400 now where it was limited at 3200 before.

Mine had the original 1x firmware so I had the limitation. Or at least that's what I saw.

This is what 2.0.3 brings you

Fixes a phenomenon in which the camera stops working when the auto power off setting takes effect.
Fixes a phenomenon in which the maximum number of images that can be captured in a burst may be less than the actual number displayed in the viewfinder.
Corrects some errors in the message displayed on the LCD screen when saving RAW images developed in the camera.

If you get past the ads on the links on this page, you can find just about every single firmware release for Canon cameras, despite the fact that Canon only ever exposes the latest firmware at any given time.

Fair enough. But seriously, don't be afraid of the process. It's ridiculously easy (put file on CF card, insert into camera >50% battery capacity; scroll to firmware update; let sit for 3 minutes).

The PDF files contain how-to instructions in 5 different languages (English, French, Japanese etc). Open the PDF that ends with -en.pdf (en is short for ENglish) or other language if you prefer. The firmware is in 7D000205.FIR file. That file is the one to use to upgrade your camera firmware.
