Love this thread, so it seems fair to provide food for entertainment in exchange for all the fun I have had in the past...

Bill - you are making this easy. I have one word that sums this one up (I warned you I was cranky) "Boring".....seriously the most interesting thing here is a stick..... Sorry brother but this one is not something I have many good things to say about.

If you want more than one word, here are others: dull, unimaginative, uneventful;

Hi Adrian -
I see your game here......using the cute kid card so I am forced to be nice....well I think it worked. It is a cute picture, sharp and pretty well done. Here is where it lacks....the focus point looks like it is on the toy cart and not the eyes. The eyes are a bit dark....I want to see the eyes of this cutie. Don't just shoot the moment but set it up for success.

Hey Pyro -
These are pretty good. The building shot doesn't really do anything for me, looks like a snapshot, nothing that really makes me want to run out and print it.
The first girl/guitar pic - her head is a bit awkward but I think it works, what bothers me the most is I can't see the guitar - without the second pic I would be struggling to see what the guitar looks like. I think a little back lighting would of made this pop and maybe have her lean forward a bit.
The last one is ok also, the focus really wasn't on her eyes but center focus on the bass guitar - I want to see her eyes (they tell the story), he mouth is a bit awkward and the way she is holding it is a little like she is afraid of it. I would also have her lean forward. This is how I would direct the model in this shot - lean your head forward a bit towards me, lick your lips a bit, (say something funny so she has more of a smile on her) tell her to hold the guitar like she loves it......then at the peak take the shot.

Great advice. I really need to work on my communication/interaction with the models. Sometimes I have an idea but having trouble correctly communicate with the model and just snap away :( I really appreciate your critique, since I found them very helpful for me to get better at my photography. Thanks again!

Jefzor - be afraid, very afraid. :)

Ok, my first thought was 7 swans a swimming....but then I realized they were flamingos.... and then thought are they swimming....do flamingos swim? are they sleeping in that deep water.....makes me question and since there could be a lot of things to ponder when looking at this.....I actually will give it a passing grade. It really could be something I could picture printed large hanging in a family room.....really this could be art. At first I wanted to see their eyes but then thought no eyes really works with this pic. It could be a work of art.....that is if it was good. :) I still think it should be 7swansAswimming
Now if you can sell it to a gallery I would expect 30% cut for the advice.

Hmm, the eyes did kind of disappear at websize.

They do actually swim when the water is too deep to wade in. They were swimming in a salt lake.

I'll let you know if, I mean when I get famous and rich by photography

Hey Rob - thanks for joining in. I see what you are trying to accomplish here but in my opinion it is way off. Looks like a sharp snapshot.

When you take pictures of people/kids or anyone it is extremely important to bring out the absolute best in them. Honestly your role as a real photographer is to make each subject look as fantastic as they possibly can.

This means not the same thing fits everyone. Shoot as if you are being paid by a huge client (magazine, marketing etc) for that ONE SHOT that no one else can get or you have seen before. Use your technical skills but also your creative skills to take your shots to the next level. Shoot for the front page of the magazine.

Seriously, shoot as if you need to make your entire living on this one photo. Your entire reputation is in each photo you take....now take it to the next level.

Hey Pyro -
These are good. Love the first - I thought about cropping the top off a bit but then it would take out lots of the names on the wall, so I like it as it is. The sky is a bit boring but I love the focus and feeling this one gives off. Well done, you even bent down to take the shot - nice, keep it up.

The second shot is a bug.....honestly I am not a bug/flower guy......for me they just do not do anything. But as far as bug shots go this one is good. I wished I could of seen the entire bug (butterfly thing) but it is good.

Have a great weekend!
Scott
