What do you use 70-200 for on a crop camera?

I am just curious what you guys use the 70-200 (any version/make) for when on a crop camera? I got it just because I could not resist - it was an absolutely unbeatable deal on a local Craigslist. But when I go to a local Audubon park for birds, I use my Sigma 120-400, as 200mm is too short even with a 1.4x TC. When going to a city, particularly in Europe, I use either 15-85 or 10-20. For macro - EF-S 60mm.

What is your experience with this lens on a crop camera?

My main use is for motorsport:

but I've found it to be a suitable focal length for dog agility too:

I use my 70-200 f/2.8L II for shooting live music night-club performances on dimly-lit stages. It's the only way I can get decent images without too much noise, which otherwise would be the result of using a slower lens. And, at 200mm on my 7D, I can get good framing of the performers without standing in front of the stage. I have another show to shoot tonight, in fact.

A 70-200mm lens very frequently is suitable on a so-called "crop" camera. Examples from a Canon 60D.

Regardless of the imager size, the 70-200mm range is one of the most frequently used on cameras based on 35mm SLR's. That's been the case since film ruled and has not mysteriously changed with digital cameras. In the real world, it takes little imagination or experience to learn the answer.

One of the mysteries of photography though is that 70-200 is popular on both formats yet 110-300 (100-300) isn't especially popular on FF and 44-125 isn't a popular range on crop. I think people have adapted to the (excellent) lenses available rather than necessarily looking for the equivalent tool. I must say I find my 50-150mm Sigma a very handy lens for sports and events, it is wide enough for general use outdoors.

Very best,

Kids sports and some wildlife with a 1.4TC, but I don't have a longer lens.

With my kids sports I often need the 70mm end on a crop.
