I've searched most of this thread and cant find anything about ND filter info. in detail.
Any suggestions as to what density or which one in particular to use with the 85 L?

Thanks

lol, he might be new to the lens or never used nd filters.

to answer the question, 3 stop ND filter aka ND 0.9. 72mm filter size.

something like this tiffen (external link) would do the job. Shoot F1.2 during the daytime.

I would never put a Tiffen filter in front of $2k glass.

Very best,

Very best,

I've used it on the 85, 50, and 135, and IMO it does quite good. No color or flare issues.

it's only 3 stops of filtration, so I wouldnt worry about the filter, but if it were 10 stops, then yeah, a good filter makes a ginormous difference.

Anyhow, maybe this filter hasnt worked well for you, but I've used this exact combination and it works great.

I also have a high quality hoya and haida 3 stop filter I've used, and no differences in quality compared to the tiffen. Reviews really speak for themselves: http://www.bhphotovideo.com …m_Neutral_Density_ND.html (external link)

a 4.8/5 rating from BH, that rates ONLY that filter as opposed to amazons.

woah woah woah, I wouldnt go that far! I avoid UV filters when possible, contrast and resolution loss is not worth it! The 85L hood offers great protection.

That is really not very helpful and just because you know the answer to that question you are going to try to make someone else feel bad. There is plenty of knowledge about photography that each of us will never know, there is just too much to learn. Some people never learn about strobes and others learn it first neither is wrong just on different photography paths.

Please will you share your knowledge of ND filters to help him out. Chances are he never had a need for one until he picked up the 85L and went out one afternoon to try to take some mid day pictures at 1.2.

There are a handful of reasons that people use/need ND filters Mark II what are you trying to do that is not working?
