Fantastic man, I have a hard time doing King Fishers. I'm too slow. Nice to see the lens is not a limiting factor on them. They're really cool to watch slam the water. So fast.

Very best,

IMHO it's a totally wrong statement.
400mm f5.6 is the lightest hand holdable birding lens..

I suppose you haven't read it completely, i do agree the Canon 400MM F5.6 is an amazing lens with better IQ then tamron 150-600MM. All i meant was, Canon 400MM F5.6 is very hard to handhold in low shutter/low light if you want tack sharp image. And with a solid tripod canon is much better than tamron.

When i speak of Tack sharp, your flicker page has lot of them and some great BIF by Canon 400MM F5.6 and i can see many static bird pics by 70-300MM IS L & 100-400MM IS L. You completely avoided 400MM F5.6 on static/low light/low shutter.

I wanted a greater IQ telephoto lens but Canon will restrict me by many means and compromising IQ i am going with Tamron for it's VC & reach. (Just my views btw)

I got it within a week, but I didn't order with the big two: BH or Adorma, instead I called 20-30+ stores and found two that had one each in stock :D

much faster then waiting 4 months...

Ok so is is not the sharpest ever shot of the moon...but it was handheld and I do not know of many other lenses that allow that.

You are absolutely right. I have rarely used 400mm f/5.6 for static shots. It's almost reserved for BIF
