I'm going on a trip to Amsterdam in a couple of weeks. When I first heard about the trip my first thought was: "What camera gear should I take?" So I'm turning to you guys for help.
While I could take my 18-35 and my 70-200 on the trip this seems an overkill, especially because of all the weight draging me down.
I have some money saved and I could afford a new lens, but here comes a problem.
The First option is to buy a versitile lens, such as a 17-85, 18-135 or 15-85, but these lenses would not see any use other than travel, because they are just to slow for what I do.
The second option would be to buy an ultrawide like Tokina 11-16 or Canon 10-22 and take 50 1.8 with me. This would leave me with a great UWA for use after the trip, but the often lens changes and less than stellar preformance of 50 1.8 make this choice a bit cumbersome.
The third option would be to pack my 18-35, despite its weight, and purchase a 85 1.8. This would give me some good reach and serve as a great portrait lens when I come home from the trip.
Which option would you pick and why? Can you suggest any alternatives?
