Ok, so not really macro in the true sense of the word. But the 400mm f5.6 and 1.4xTCIII combo works pretty well from 15 ft away.

May 26, 2014 11:02 | #10 Thanks, folks. Last time I was out shooting butterflies I tried using the 100L macro and had a rough time trying to get them in flight. Amazingly the 400 5.6 locks on faster and more accurately. The extra DOF helps out, too. Mark J.
