Tamron SP 90mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Macro

I love mine, nothing but pleased with it. I tested the Canon non-L in the store while picking it up, it's supposed to be a tiny bit sharper than the Tamrons but I couldn't notice any difference while trying to pixel peep in-camera. So as the Tamron VC is a little bit cheaper, has stabilization and now comes with 5 years warranty I went with that one. The old Tamron is cheaper and is pretty much just as sharp as the newer version but has quite alot of focus breathing (if you care about that) and ofcourse lacks VC. As i said before I love my Tamron VC and I'm pretty sure you would to if you should pick one up. Hope that helps!

Recent purchase. Pleased with the choice.

- very good image stabilisation (VC)
- very good IQ (as usual for macro lenses)
- weather sealing (at least some level as there is a rubber ring sealing the gap between lens and body)
- very quick focusing
- nice bokeh (but not exceptional)

One week, and the new lens failed. I've tried to find info of similar problems in the net, but seems I have got a very rare sample of a failed Tamron lens.

The AF seemed to stop working and the VC jumped the image with huge leaps couple of times after "focusing". After some time the lens seemed to AF at full range setting, but with macro range setting again stopped working. The VC didn't work even when the AF seemed to work a while but caused those huge leaps in the image.

To repair/replacement it went. I'll post info here what the service can make to the lens.

I am loving mine. Even great wide open as a portrait lens.

Okay, it took a little less than three weeks, and my lens got back from repair.

According the description the focusing motor has been replaced. Don't know if it itself includes the vibration control or not, has it been replaced or not. But the lens seemed to work when I tried it.

Hopefully the lens will in the future give me more photography time than repair time

Photos will certainly follow when I get some.

I'm trying to get used to this as a portrait lens. I think it works really great. My daughter was in rare form and let me shoot away after school last week, so nothing fancy but I am pleased with the results.

This lens renders portraits very nicely, the transition from sharp (which is sharp enough ) to bokeh is very nice.

Your shots look beautiful, you have done well with your children portraits you have in your photostream.
